Birch - Betula pendula dalecarlica
Betula pendula Dalecarlica is a cut-leaved form of the Common Silver Birch, Betula pendula.
This tree was found in Sweden in the 1760’s and it forms a medium to large tree with a broadly columnar shaped, slender crown.
It is often referred to as ‘Laciniata’ or ‘Crispa’ however it is not worth agonising over the differences, if you are looking for a cut-leaf Birch; ‘Dalecarlica’ is a great choice.
Like all Birch trees, Betula pendula Dalecarlica has attractive bark which is characteristically white and peeling. In the autumn time, the foliage turns a pretty golden yellow before falling.
This tree is a reliable performer, tolerating most soil conditions however it should be avoided in areas where the soil is compacted or there is reflected heat or light.
The Cut-Leaved Birch is delicate and graceful, yet impressive and stately making it a perfect addition to any large garden or parkland where elegance is required.
