Magnolia grandiflora Galissonniere is a fantastic, profusely flowering, evergreen Southern Magnolia.

The foliage of this evergreen beauty are quite remarkable; being dark green and leathery with a brown underside which gives interesting contrast. The stunning flowers bear a light fragrance and appear in summer and remain until early autumn. This variety tends to be selected over the species as it produces a more showy display of flowers.

Magnolia grandiflora Galissonniere was introduced from the USA in 1734 and is well known in its native lands of North Carolina, Florida, Arkansas and Texas.

This ordinarily medium sized round headed tree is capable of reaching a large size if given full sun and a sheltered position and given the warmer weather gradually creeping into Southern England; this evergreen has been doing remarkably well in the warmer southern spots of this country.

The Southern Magnolia prefers a rich, fertile soil and as such will tolerate a little lime in the soil.

This super medium to large tree is a great choice for screening above a fence line and makes a superb feature specimen for planting in a garden or large parkland.
