Tilia mongolica is a stunning small Lime that was introduced from its homeland in Mongolia in the early 1880’s and is very different to the rest of the Tilia species.

This Lime tree is notable for its interesting foliage; its leaves are small, a glossy green and serrated around the edges and turn a brilliant and delicate butter yellow in the autumn time.

Aphids are not attracted to this tree and as such the dew usually produced by Limes is not a problem for this species. The flowers are creamy white and borne from August through to September.

Tilia mongolica produces a small tree at maturity for Lime with a tidy and extremely attractive round shaped crown. This tree is tolerant of most soil types, preferring well drained, fertile soils.

small beauty is unusual and unlike most of the larger Limes is a suitable selection for planting in gardens. The serrated margins of the leaves give the tree a soft appearance and it is best planted against other bright red or orange coloured autumn foliage, where the contrast will exaggerate this trees best feature; its leaves.
